Confederation was a long process that had long-term consequences for many people, not only for those who worked to bring it about in the East but for those who were outside of what became Canada as well. One of the first groups to experience these effects were the Metis of the Red River Colony. We began our look at the consequences of Confederation for the Metis by first looking at the history of the Metis prior to Confederation.
